Time To Ponder The Underworld
Shoooo, the homework, quizzes and tests are over. Well, almost. Thursday is my last day of classes and, in two weeks I'll be saying good bye to my third year of college as finals come to an end. I hope that everyone is having some fun to relieve the stress for the end of the school year. Now, I'd like to jump to the down under.
It appears from what I've read of upcoming episodes over at Spoilerfix.com that the Halliwell sisters will be taking refuge in the Underworld after the magical community turns on them via the force of the duo. After eight years of Charmed, we've had some great experiences with the Underworld and some mishaps, but we have no real clue as to what the Underworld holds or how far it expands. From what "is" said about the mystical place, the Underworld is a maze of caves and fortresses that have destinations like the continents. The race of demons that it holds range from warlocks and darklighters to manticores and kazis, much like the diversity of our world. Plus, the Underworld is housed by some type of barrier that divides the world from the Underworld. We've seen it countless times, especially in connection with Leo. When he was a whitelighter, Leo couldn't sense any of his charges in the Underworld if he is in the world and vice-versa. And don't forget that it's musky, dark and dreary. And yes, the Halliwell sisters will have to travel the dusty paths, march through the hardcore civilians just to protect their coven and family. So let's talk about the times that the sisters have walked the lands of the dark; let's talk about the demons that they have faced; and let's talk about the conditions that separate the Underworld from the world of the sisters.

Okay, before I jump to my Underworld talk could anyone tell me when the sisters first travel to the Underworld? See it isn't that easy to remember, now is it? lol. Hmmm...let's see. The Underworld is well just great for a place, but I don't know if I like the sisters taking refuge there. It's hostile territory! It couldn't be safe to hide out with the big bad evil, even if you are running from the ultimate power. They'll have to look over their shoulders every second of every minute.
Well, it has to be sometime in season three. I'd guess before the season three finale, but the season three finale is the only one at the moment that I remember of the sisters, or well one of the sisters, traveling to the UW.
Now in concern with the sisters hiding out in the UW. I don't like it one bit, but it's not because of the UW. I just don't feel like the sisters should have to run. They are the Charmed Ones, the most powerful witches the world has ever seen. So why are they running from some blonde, witch wannabees?
And as for the UW, I'd have to say that I love it. It is a great prop as well as a key ingredient to the show, besides the Manor. The UW is the home of the demons, for which we need such that there is context to the demons, even given their one-time-only appearances.
Great thoughts you gals. First of let me say that I think that the sister(s) first travelled to the UW (great abbreviation) in Wrestling With Demons and then again in Bride and Gloom. In these short trips, though, there's not much to see, but it does give us a sense of the UW.
And as for the sisters running, I'd have to agree with you witch--warrior. They aren't newbies and they aren't powerless. They have faced countless evils, some I think more bad than the duo...hmmm...does anyone remember The Source -- he was the The Source of ALL Evil...that's gotta be badder than Christy and Billie. So I hate them hiding, but I must say that I hope we get some really great scenes in the UW.
The whole "ultimate power" thing is becoming king-size, I just hope that it will be all that they are leading it up to be. And as for Billie and Christy, I hope that neither one of them dies. I just hope that the sisters bound their powers.
And Rudy, I think you are right. The first time we view any glimpse of the UW is when the sisters are trying to save Tom, and Prue and Phoebe end up fighting in the ring.
It appears that the showrunners are keeping the "ultimate power" thing going great. This sunday's episode looks like it's going to be fantastic, especially with darklighers. I've always thought that the darklighters where the best UW creatures. After all, who doesn't just love Love Hurts and Chramed & Dangerous?
While those are two really great episodes, I don't prefer darklighters over Barbas. Barbas has to the best demon created, except for their reversal of his character in s6's bad, bad, bad, bad world.
Barbas? Yea, he has had some really great episodes, but he's nothing more than those episodes. After his season one episode "From Fear to Eternity," his agenda became about getting the sisters and getting power. It change from him taking pleasure in his power of absorbing peoples' fears, which is what he's supposed to be about. So I guess he isn't my favorite. Hmmm...who is my favorite then? Ahhh....maybe Shax. Why not? He killed Prue and that was a major jonesing for greatness. Yes, people hate him because they took their precious Prue. And don't get me wrong, Prue is my favorite sister, but seriously I moved on like the show did.
